Registration is currently underway in Lahore for the She Threads initiative, launched by the Punjab Women Development Department to provide women with free vocational instruction and a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 for qualifying participants.
During the three-month course, students will learn to become apparel supervisors and industrial sewing machine operators through classroom learning and hands-on practice.
Classes are held at Shahkam Industries Limited, situated on Defence Road near Multan Road in Lahore. The instruction costs nothing, and the monthly stipend assists with travel costs.
Graduates who finish the course successfully will also get help securing jobs.
By June 2027, the department plans to instruct 2,500 women. Throughout the 2025-26 fiscal year, 1,150 women finished the course.
