On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court prohibited the Capital Development Authority from proceeding with any actions impacting an ancestral cemetery located in Sector D-12, demanding a formal written answer to a petition that contests the planned excavation of burial sites.

Justice Muhammad Azam Khan released the written directive during proceedings on a petition brought forward by Waqar Ahmed, who requested safeguarding measures for the Elahi Mosque burial ground situated in Mauza Sari Saral, Sector D-12.

The plaintiff stated that the cemetery contains the burial plots of his forefathers as well as other locals, pressing the court to halt the civic agency from executing construction activities, building roadways, or grading the terrain.

Based on the lawsuit, survey documents, tax records, and satellite pictures from Google Maps likewise designate the location as a cemetery and funeral site.

The attorney representing the petitioner asked the judicial body to mandate the setup of boundaries and marking of the cemetery to safeguard it against illegal occupation or destruction, ensuring the burial ground remains secure prior to any regional development.

Within its temporary ruling, the court mandated that the current state of the cemetery stay unchanged while asking for a written defense from the Capital Development Authority.
