Former Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin was dismissed from an MLS game on Saturday after grabbing his crotch and gesturing toward an opponent.
The French forward had earlier found the net against Orlando City, then saw his penalty saved before the incident.
Charlotte FC were already ahead 3-0 when the referee consulted VAR and confirmed the offensive gesture, issuing a red card.
It is unclear which Orlando player was the target, though the side featured fellow Frenchman Antoine Griezmann.
