Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has prolonged its suspension of fresh domestic gas hookups indefinitely because interrupted regasified liquefied natural gas deliveries are expanding the supply deficit as winter begins.

Insiders told ProPakistani that commercial hookups for tandoors and hotels were halted beginning this month as well. Numerous customers remain unconnected even though they paid the urgent processing fee.

Why the Ban Has Been Extended

Insiders stated that regasified liquefied natural gas shipments faced disruptions while the deficit in the current network expanded. Demand for gas climbed steeply with the arrival of winter, creating challenges in serving current household users.

Representatives for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited explained that the Ministry of Petroleum ordered the restriction, and service will probably resume only after the conflict between Iran and the United States ends.

Authorities originally suspended fresh gas hookups in April because of the same regasified liquefied natural gas supply issues.

What This Means for You

Liquefied petroleum gas serves as the primary substitute for homes lacking piped gas, and prices are climbing. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority established the official rate for an 11.8-kg household cylinder at Rs. 3,470.09 for November, representing a Rs. 173.86 increase from October.

Yet, liquefied petroleum gas reportedly changes hands near Rs. 600 per kg across Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and additional regions. At such pricing, a single cylinder totals roughly Rs. 7,080, exceeding the official figure by about Rs. 3,610.

During winter months, a household consuming two cylinders monthly would spend approximately Rs. 14,160 at market rates, versus Rs. 6,940 using official pricing. Authorities are currently evaluating liquefied petroleum gas regulations as costs rise.

Customers who submitted urgent fees lack a timeline for installation because activation relies on better gas availability.
