The federal government will distribute 500,000 refurbished Chromebooks to high-performing Grade 9 students throughout Pakistan under the Prime Minister's Youth Chromebook Scheme, with the eligibility criteria revealed on Sunday.

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training together with the Prime Minister's Youth Program are overseeing the rollout, while the TT Care Foundation has pledged to supply the devices under a letter of understanding, The News reported.

To qualify, students must have achieved at least 50% in their most recent SSC-I examinations. The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) will authenticate the results, and officials will select beneficiaries on merit within each province or region, examination board and academic stream.

Applicants may come from public schools, private schools supported by provincial education foundations, or registered madaris.

Device allocations are set at 181,090 for Punjab, 85,925 for Sindh, 51,170 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 31,815 for Balochistan, 100,000 for Islamabad, and 25,000 each for Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Within each region, 80% of the Chromebooks will be assigned to school students and 20% to madaris students. School-based distribution will follow academic streams, reserving 70% for science and 30% for arts.

Authorities will confirm results, enrollment status and school affiliation before sending the devices by courier. A monitoring system will track deliveries, and grievance committees will handle complaints about selection, verification or non-delivery.
