Apple revealed the 2026 iPad mini on October 28, 2026, equipping its smallest tablet with an OLED display and the new A20 Pro processor for the first time. The updated device also brings a slimmer build, upgraded speakers, faster wireless connections, and IP67 water and dust protection. Yet, Apple included different variants of the A20 Pro processor based on the storage level chosen by buyers.
Design and Display
The updated iPad mini sports an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen with 2,316 × 1,512 pixel resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. Even with the OLED upgrade, Apple omitted 120Hz ProMotion technology from the smaller device. The panel delivers up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness alongside slimmer bezels. Customers can select optional nano-texture glass to cut down on glare. Compatibility includes the Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C). Apple trimmed the tablet down to 5.4mm in thickness and 255 grams in weight, shifting from 6.3mm and 297 grams on the older version. Offered in Midnight and Starlight, the new iPad mini comes with an IP67 water and dust resistance rating.
Internals and Software
Apple included the A20 Pro chipset inside the 2026 iPad mini, though processing power differs according to storage capacity. The 128GB and 256GB editions come with a five-core CPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. Meanwhile, the costlier 512GB option packs a six-core CPU featuring an extra efficiency core plus a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, doubling the dedicated AI processing cores. Every configuration uses a seven-core GPU. The tablet operates on iPadOS 27 and accommodates Apple Intelligence capabilities. Wireless functions cover Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread through Apple's N1 wireless chip. Cellular variants incorporate 5G connectivity via Apple's C2 modem and eSIM technology.
Cameras and Audio
The fresh iPad mini features a 12MP Center Stage front camera placed along the landscape edge for video calls. A 12MP rear camera handles photos and videos. Apple designed a new Acoustic Display setup that puts specialized speakers under the screen. The mechanism uses the panel to deliver deeper bass and louder volume, while custom tweeters located between the glass and aluminum frame enhance high-frequency sound.
Battery
An 18.9Wh battery powers the 2026 iPad mini alongside USB-C charging. Apple reports the unit hits a 50 percent charge in about 30 minutes when using a power adapter of 35W or higher. The USB-C port additionally enables USB 3 data transfer speeds reaching up to 10Gbps.
Pricing
Pricing for the new iPad mini begins at $699 for the 128GB Wi-Fi edition, while the 256GB and 512GB tiers cost $799 and $999 respectively. Customers requiring cellular connectivity will pay $849 for the 128GB model, $949 for the 256GB option, and $1,149 for the 512GB variant. Pre-orders open on October 28, 2026, with shipments and in-store availability launching on November 6.
