Everton manager David Moyes will be pleased after his side defeated Newcastle United 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, earning a quarter-final match against Fleetwood Town.
Newcastle, who entered the game with around 8,000 supporters in the Hill Dickinson Stadium as part of a near-52,000-sell-out, could not hold onto an early advantage and fell behind after 34 minutes.
Everton's new signing Hayden Hackney, signed for £14.5million from Middlesbrough, opened the scoring when his pass found James Garner, who slotted the ball past Lukas Hornicek.
Thierno Barry added a second after a sequence involving Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, while Hackney himself scored a third in the 69th minute following further work from Dewsbury-Hall.
Newcastle's consolation came from a late header by Dan Burn, and a scuffle after the final whistle resulted in bookings for Burn, Joelinton, and Jordan Pickford.
