Three months after Elon Musk said Grok would launch a full-length, "historically accurate" movie version of "The Odyssey," the company posted a seven-minute segment it calls "Episode 1 of our Odyssey series."
Musk had earlier criticized Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" for casting nonwhite and transgender actors. Nolan, who often describes himself as a "techno-skeptic," contrasts with Musk, who promotes space data centers and AI-generated content.
Nolan's rendition relied heavily on practical filmmaking, shooting across six countries with thousands of cast and crew members. Released in July, it achieved strong box-office results, sold out IMAX showings for months, and is seen as a leading contender for the upcoming Academy Awards.
The Grok version, produced with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, is now available to view.

The reviewer noted it is not as "spectacularly ugly" as expected and appears more polished than recent Musk-posted videos. Some scenes could be mistaken for real actors at sea, and the narrator speaks with a British accent familiar from fantasy games and generic Hollywood epics.
However, the piece lacks artistry, inspiration, or human interest. The voiceover backstory drags on before presenting bearded characters delivering stiff lines that make Nolan's dialogue seem Shakespearean.
While a few shots mimic reality, the overall presentation feels flat, offering no momentum or reason to engage with the on-screen figures. The reviewer found it difficult to stay attentive, even after less than half of the seven minutes had passed.
The prospect of another seven minutes, let alone a full movie, seems unappealing.
