Roti prices have hit Rs. 20 and naan Rs. 35 in Lahore after the government halted subsidised flour deliveries, and tandoor proprietors caution that costs may climb further.

The United Naan Roti Association is refusing to follow the state-mandated price list, arguing that increased flour and fuel expenses make the set rates untenable.

Association President Aftab Aslam Gul explained that the Food Department used to provide subsidised flour to tandoor operators, which let them sell roti at the notified prices.

He noted that a 10-kilogram bag of flour once cost Rs. 1,100, but a 15-kilogram bag now sells for Rs. 2,350, and added that higher liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have also pushed up operating costs.

Gul called on the government to keep flour and gas supplies affordable to stabilise roti and naan prices, warning that the suspension of subsidies and rising fuel costs could drive further price hikes.
