Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab opened the Saulah Muhammad Water Pumping Station in Gadap Town after decades of upgrades to the facility.
During the ceremony, Wahab noted that the station's chlorination centre is now operational and that the work should enhance water provision to homes and housing societies along Memon Goth Road, such as Jafar Tayyar, Khokhrapar and Firdous Colony.
He pointed out that residents of Gulshan-e-Hadeed have suffered water shortages since Pakistan Steel Mills halted its supply, but that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) representatives have taken measures to resolve the problem.
The mayor also revealed that a new pipeline capable of delivering 10 million gallons of water per day (MGD) has been installed to boost water availability in Lyari, and another line runs along the Lyari Expressway, with steps being taken to curb water theft.
Wahab added that additional improvements are in progress on Memon Goth Road.
Regarding other public services, he said the reopened Spencer Eye Hospital is now treating roughly 300 patients each day.
