A severe liquefied petroleum gas shortage has deepened across Peshawar and throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, pushing the per-kilogram rate to an unprecedented high of Rs650.
Express News reports that vendors are charging unauthorized rates throughout the region, ignoring the official October price of Rs280 per kilogram set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
Rates for domestic cylinders have surpassed Rs6,000 alongside the record-breaking per-kilogram costs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Authorities have kept silent regarding these surging costs. Local inhabitants note that households in Peshawar and other regional areas lacking pipeline gas rely entirely on cylinders, meaning these steep increases create serious hardship for the public.
