Families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being asked by local police to be very careful while filming and photographing women during wedding events, due to warnings that bad actors might exploit these recordings for harassment and blackmail.

Authorities explained that bad actors could alter personal videos and pictures through artificial intelligence to generate fake or explicit material, such as deepfake media.

Bad actors might leverage this fake content to threaten families and victims, asking for cash or trying to force obedience by threatening public exposure.

The department noted that these occurrences cause severe emotional and psychological damage to victims, impacting their mental health, family bonds, and personal lives. Citizens were urged by law enforcement to stay watchful regarding how wedding media is filmed, kept, and distributed, especially across online networks and social media.

This warning arrives as Pakistan begins the winter wedding season, a period marked by an increase in family events, marriage ceremonies, and photography sessions.

Law enforcement stressed the significance of mindful photography, online privacy, and heightened awareness to stop the exploitation of private pictures and safeguard women from digital threats.
