Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that all 5,734 water filtration plants in the province must be completed by June 2027, and she instructed officials to guarantee their operation and upkeep.

Speaking at a Punjab Saaf Pani Authority meeting on Sunday, she told assistant commissioners to oversee the plants and set up public committees to watch their performance in streets and neighbourhoods.

Mobile maintenance units staffed with plumbers and technical personnel will be created in each tehsil to carry out prompt repairs.

The chief minister also approved a Last-Mile Water Supply Project aimed at delivering clean drinking water to affected locations in Chakwal, Rajanpur and Rawalpindi, directing that water-supply schemes covering 256 kilometres in Chakwal and 1,780 kilometres in Rajanpur be given priority.

Officials were briefed on water-bottling plants operating in Khushab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur, which together produce 10,000 bottles of 19 litres each day.

The briefing noted that roughly 4.8 million people have benefited from the Chief Minister's Water Bottling Project, and that more than 75,000 bottles of drinking water have been delivered to households.

Maryam Nawaz said access to clean drinking water is every citizen's right and promised to extend water-supply schemes to additional areas after Chakwal, Rajanpur and Rawalpindi.
