Government laboratory testing in Sindh has declared seven batches of six well-known medicines fake after analyses showed they contained no active ingredients, leading to scrutiny of the manufacturers and distributors involved.
Reports indicate that specific batches of Velosef, Augmentin, No-Spa Forte, Mucaine Suspension and Brufen were labeled fake, and the constipation syrup Laxoberon also failed the tests.
Velosef 500 mg batch LX3A was found without its active component, and Augmentin 526 mg batch YT9D received the same result. Certain batches of No-Spa Forte and Mucaine Suspension likewise did not meet laboratory standards.
A sample of Brufen batch W6BC, used for joint pain, was also declared counterfeit. Laxoberon syrup batches 46292 and 43445 lacked the active ingredient sodium picosulfate.
Martin Dow Marker said it was not responsible for producing the questioned Laxoberon batches, and the implicated pharmaceutical firms declined to confirm the batches as their products.
Action under the Drug Act 1976 has been recommended. The testing laboratory has forwarded its reports to the Secretary of the Quality Control Board Sindh and to the Drug Inspector Karachi South for further steps.
