Visiting the New UK Balloon Museum at Excel Waterfront
Traditional art galleries often struggle to capture the attention of younger audiences. Traditional paintings and sculptures behind velvet ropes rarely inspire excitement in children. The Balloon Museum offers a completely different approach to contemporary culture by letting visitors touch, explore, and play inside the exhibits.
Following a previous appearance in 2023 with the EmotionAir exhibition at Old Billingsgate, the concept has returned to the capital. The latest incarnation occupies Immerse London on Excel Waterfront, bringing large-scale installations made from air and inflatables to the city.
International creators, including Turner Prize winner Martin Creed, contribute to the installations. The overarching project treats air as a contemporary artistic language that encourages people to see familiar environments in unexpected ways.
What to Expect Inside EUPHOЯIA Art is in the Air
The current exhibition bears the title EUPHOЯIA - Art is in the Air. While the core concept centers on contemporary art, the practical reality delivers a high-energy experience for visitors of all ages.
A visit begins in a large glass-walled room packed with massive balloons that guests must physically push aside to cross. Other spaces feature oversized inflatable cubes used to construct giant forts, alongside an enormous bed capable of accommodating twenty people.
Another striking display includes a large sculpture resembling a viral structure. Visitors navigate these spaces while taking photographs against colorful, immersive backgrounds.
Highlights Including Giant Ball Pits and Bouncy Castles
The most popular attractions within the venue lean heavily into pure entertainment. A massive ball pit exceeds the dimensions of a typical ballroom, offering ample space to wade through thousands of plastic spheres.
An exceptionally large bouncy castle spans at least twenty-five metres in length and contains additional inflatables inside its walls. Additional features include a balloon whirlwind and a mechanical tree that periodically releases smoke-filled bubbles.
These interactive elements transform abstract artistic concepts into tactile experiences. Children and adults alike find themselves immersed in physical play while surrounded by modern design.
Ticket Prices and Location Details
The exhibition runs at Immerse London, located at ExCeL London on Royal Victoria Dock. Admission costs vary depending on age and group size.
- Children's tickets start from £20.
- Adult tickets start from £26.
- Family tickets are available starting from £59.
While the fusion of fine art and playground physics might not convince children to request visits to traditional museums like the Tate Modern, it creates an approachable entry point for younger visitors. Future gallery trips may require some explaining when inflatables are absent, but the current attraction provides a memorable day out.
