Arsenal face Liverpool this weekend hoping to end a long-standing hoodoo on Merseyside.
The Gunners have not won a league match at Anfield in over 14 YEARS, last getting the better of the Reds in September 2012.
Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla netted that day in a comfortable 2-0 victory for Arsene Wenger's side, but Arsenal have been unable to recreate that success since.
In fact, it has been so long since they tasted success at Anfield that eight of the Gunners' starting XI that day have now retired.
Those players include a kebab king, a Premier League boss, an international managing director and a League Two journeyman.
Here, we look at where each of Arsenal's starting XI are today, 14 years on from their last victory against Liverpool.
GK - VITO MANNONE
Mannone never managed to nail down a regular starting spot during his seven years at Arsenal.
The shot-stopper headed out on a flurry of loans and only played 23 times for the Gunners.
Now 38, Mannone is playing and coaching in League Two for Crawley Town, returning to the pitch after a career break in 2025.
The Italian has had stints at Reading, Monaco, Lille, Minnesota United and Danish side Esbjerg fB during his journeyman career.
RB - CARL JENKINSON
An Arsenal cult hero of sorts, Jenkinson retired from professional football this summer after an unusual career.
After struggling to adapt to life at Arsenal, Jenkinson spent time with West Ham, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest before heading to Australia.
While Down Under, the one-time England international played for Newcastle Jets and Melbourne City, but returned to England in 2024 where he spent two years at Bromley in League Two before calling it quits on his career aged 34.
CB - PER MERTESACKER
One of the most successful players on this list, Mertesacker played over 220 times for Arsenal and helped the Gunners win three FA Cups, as well as lifting the World Cup with Germany.
Following his retirement, the defender became Arsenal's academy manager and helped ring through young talent like Max Dowman, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka.
Mertesacker left Arsenal in the summer and will be starting a new role as the German national team's Managing Director of Sport in January.
CB - THOMAS VERMAELEN
After leaving Arsenal, Vermaelen went on to play for Barcelona and Roma before ending his career in Japan playing with Andres Iniesta at Vissel Kobe.
The former Gunners captain, 40, is now working as manager of Belgium U20s and was Roberto Martinez's assistant for the Belgium first team at the 2022 World Cup.
LB - KIERAN GIBBS
Gibbs left Arsenal in 2017 to join West Brom, where he played for four seasons ahead of a move to the USA to join Inter Miami.
The left-back briefly played alongside the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Blaise Matuidi and Romeo Beckham, but never got the chance to line up alongside Lionel Messi.
After retiring in 2023, Gibbs became the host of The Inter Miami Show on Apple TV and has founded his own football academy alongside Matuidi and Sylvain Marveaux.
CM - ABOU DIABY
Arsenal fans will tell you that Abou Diaby could have been a club legend if it wasn't for an unfortunate career riddled with injuries.
Diaby retired in 2019 after spending two years without a club following his release from Marseille in 2017.
Despite a career spanning over 10 years, Diaby managed to rack up just 209 club appearances due to his injury issues and now lives a quiet life in Paris away from the spotlight.
CM - MIKEL ARTETA
It has been so long since Arsenal last won at Anfield that Mikel Arteta played that day, retired, became a coach at Manchester City, became Arsenal manager, failed to win at Anfield six times and then won the Gunners the Premier League as boss.
Arteta knows better than most just how hard it is to win against Liverpool, given his time as a manager and his playing career with Arsenal and Everton.
Perhaps that is why he has been known to play You'll Never Walk Alone in training for his Arsenal players ahead of Liverpool games in the past.
The Spaniard will be desperate to end Arsenal's Anfield hoodoo this Sunday and taste that success for the first time since he was a player in the 2012 victory.
CAM - SANTI CAZORLA
One of the most-loved Arsenal players in modern history, Cazorla is remembered in North London as a fan favourite.
After leaving the Emirates in 2018, Cazorla played for Villarreal and Qatari club Al Sadd before returning to his boyhood club Real Oviedo in 2023.
Cazorla helped Oviedo return to La Liga after two seasons with the club and retired last summer aged 41 after playing one final season in the Spanish top flight with the Spanish side.
His 16-year-old son, Enzo, is now starting his own journey with Oviedo, making his debut for the club this week in the Copa del Rey.
RW - ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN
After being part of the last Arsenal side to win at Anfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain jumped ship to join the Reds five years later.
The versatile winger-cum-midfielder later joined Besiktas and is now playing for Celtic, where he has struggled for game time this season.
LW - LUKAS PODOLSKI
While most people will remember Podolski for his hammer of a left foot, winning the World Cup and lighting up games for Bayern Munich, he is now the king of kebabs.
Podolski owns his own chain of kebab houses, with over 20 different locations across Germany and even more opening soon.
The successful company has meant that Podolski is now estimated to be worth £180m, which has helped him invest in his latest venture.
After retiring from football last summer at Polish club Gornik Zabrze, Podolski bought an 86 per cent stake in the club and is now the majority owner.
ST - OLIVIER GIROUD
The only player on this list still playing at the top level in Europe.
Giroud, 40, is currently on the books at French giants Lille and already took on Arsenal in the Champions League this season.
After leaving Arsenal for Chelsea in 2018, Giroud had stints at AC Milan and Los Angeles FC before returning to his home country of France with Lille last summer.
