Disgraced rugby league player Joe Westerman has married his friend's ex-wife following his removal from the Castleford Tigers lineup in 2023 for a public sex act.
A recording of the England international appeared online right before the 2023 Super League campaign began, leading to his removal from the Castleford Tigers team.
His union dissolved when the footage showing him in a dark Pontefract alley with a woman thought to be his wife's friend spread across the internet.
Short periods later, he began dating local real estate agent Alison Hopkinson, and the couple married on Monday following a two-year engagement, according to the Daily Star.
Westerman, aged 36, posted pictures of the event online with the caption, "A day we will never forget. Thank you to everyone who made it so special. Here's to our forever. The Westermans."
The father of three wore a beige suit for the Scarborough event, while Alison wore an A-line gown featuring a short train.
The newly married couple departed for a vacation with their children after sharing wedding pictures on social media.
A wedding attendee wrote, "I'm crying again. The most perfect day for the most perfect couple."
This event follows weeks after Westerman's former wife Laura Boyd, aged 38, married her partner Karl Holmes, aged 38.
She likewise published images of her wedding and honeymoon on social media platforms.
Childhood partners Lauren and Westerman wed in 2014, but their nine-year marriage concluded in 2023 after she had to deny she was the female in the footage.
In a public statement, she wrote, "Can I make this VERY clear that this is NOT me."
She added, "We have three children one of whom is almost 15 and she doesn't need to see things like this all over social media!"
She previously stated to The Sun that she received the video prior to its online publication.
She stated, "Truth is, he only told me because it was on social media."
She continued, "But I'm glad it was found because the thought of kissing him after that just makes me feel sick."
Westerman apologized and sent text messages pleading for his wife to return, stating, "Words will never ever explain how sorry I am."
He added, "I can't explain what happened cos I physically can't remember."
He also stated, "It's disgusting and I now have to live with it forever."
He concluded, "Losing you and the kids is heartbreaking Lauren, you deserve so much better."
Following news reports that the female involved was a companion of his wife, he was expelled from his family residence.
The athlete publicly debuted his new partner Alison, who is also the former wife of his acquaintance, later that year by sharing smiling photographs on Instagram.
The mother of two is thought to be separated from her husband Carl, aged 38.
Westerman also published a public statement after his scandal came to light.
Standing at 6ft 4ins, the Yorkshire athlete apologized to his relatives, companions, the organization, and the sport of rugby league for his actions following a 15-hour alcohol-fueled drinking session.
