The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Multan Zone detained six individuals, among them two proclaimed offenders, in separate investigations involving work-visa fraud and the illegal issuance of Pakistani computerised national identity cards (CNICs) to Afghan nationals, a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Four of the arrests were made by the Multan Composite Circle for bogus employment visas to Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Belarus and Spain. The remaining two were taken into custody by the Bahawalpur Composite Circle for allegedly providing CNICs to Afghan nationals.
On Oct 27, the FIA captured proclaimed offender Muhammad Imran of Vehari in a case filed by the Multan anti-human trafficking circle. He is accused of taking Rs800,000 from a complainant in exchange for a promised Saudi Arabia work visa, which he never arranged nor refunded.
The previous day, Zeeshan Akram, also from Vehari, was arrested after allegedly receiving Rs300,000 to secure a Dubai work visa, but failing to deliver the visa or return the money.
On Oct 26, the Bahawalpur Composite Circle apprehended proclaimed offender Qamar Zaman, a resident of Khanpur in Rahim Yar Khan district. He is said to have taken Rs900,000 from a complainant to obtain Iraq employment visas for the complainant's two sons, a promise that was not fulfilled.
On Oct 20, Munawar Ali of Mailsi tehsil in Vehari district was arrested. Authorities claim he and his accomplices swindled a complainant of Rs75.1 million through bank transfers, claiming to arrange work visas for Belarus and Spain; the visas were never provided and the funds were not returned.
In a different case, the Bahawalpur Composite Circle arrested Asif Bashir and Shahzad Ahmad on Oct 21 for their alleged role in issuing Pakistani CNICs to Afghan nationals.
