Official figures show that the federal government gathered approximately Rs. 4,400 billion via petroleum levies across the past four fiscal years, beating its total collection goal by Rs. 227 billion.

Revenues from this levy grew consistently across the timeframe. Receipts jumped from Rs. 542 billion during FY2022-23 to Rs. 960 billion in FY2023-24. Authorities brought in Rs. 1,161 billion in FY2024-25, and then reached Rs. 1,567 billion in FY2025-26, which surpassed that specific year goal by Rs. 99 billion.

Authorities established a petroleum levy collection goal of Rs. 1,676 billion for the ongoing fiscal year. Reaching this target will bring the five-year cumulative total to roughly Rs. 6,076 billion.

At the same time, buyers keep paying heavy taxes, duties, and margins on fuel items. These total fees, containing the petroleum levy, reach Rs. 110.78 per litre for petrol and Rs. 107.55 per litre for high-speed diesel.

The administration also delayed any choice about lowering the petroleum levy until the upcoming federal budget, maintaining its status as a key income source.
