Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan revealed plans for a new highway linking Kharian with Rawalpindi, a project slated to shrink the travel distance between Lahore and Rawalpindi by roughly 100 kilometres. Commuters could also see travel times between Lahore and Islamabad drop from three and a half hours down to approximately two and a half hours.

Speaking at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the minister explained that this future highway will link large Punjab urban centres like Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lalamusa, Kharian, and Jhelum to boost regional transport connections.

Alongside this route, the minister unveiled multiple road network initiatives, such as widening the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway to six lanes and building new highways joining Lahore to Gujranwala and Sahiwal. Authorities additionally intend to transform the Grand Trunk Road into a six-lane corridor.

Construction on the Pindi Bhattian Motorway carries a price tag of Rs. 15 billion, whereas authorities set aside Rs. 5 billion to remodel T-Chowk. Teams are currently redesigning Chungi No. 26 close to Islamabad Airport as well.

Aleem Khan stated that the National Highway Authority boosted its yearly earnings by Rs. 100 billion through the previous year. The body is currently handling major undertakings like the Karachi-Sukkur Motorway and an eight-lane motorway joining Karachi Port with a dedicated path for container vehicles.

The minister noted that finishing all 66 development tasks meant to upgrade Pakistan transport links and back financial growth demands Rs. 3 trillion.
