Jobe Bellingham, 21, saw a likely goal for Borussia Dortmund erased in the Der Klassiker against Bayern Munich after Carney Chukwuemeka, a former Chelsea player, committed two separate infractions.
The younger Bellingham, following his brother Jude, 23, at Dortmund, believed he had struck the biggest goal of his career at the Allianz Arena, 11 minutes before halftime.
Bayern defender Kim Min-jae attempted to play out from the back under pressure from Jobe, linked up with centre-back Dayot Upamecano, and was dispossessed by Dortmund's Chukwuemeka, 23, inside the box.
Jobe then fired a powerful shot into the net, prompting wild celebrations as he thought he had opened his season's scoring tally.
However, officials ruled the goal out because Chukwuemeka was standing in an off-side position when the ball crossed the line and later fouled Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig by kicking him in the face.
The incident sparked a reaction from Harry Kane and teammates, who scored four minutes later thanks to Konrad Laimer.
Later, Chukwuemeka assisted Serhou Guirassy's equaliser around the hour mark, while Upamecano redeemed his earlier mistake by setting up a Bayern goal assisted by Kane, five days after Kane won the Ballon d'Or in London.
