Anthropic, the developer behind the Claude artificial intelligence chatbot, officially submitted paperwork for an initial public offering in the United States on October 26, 2026. The company took this step to prepare for selling shares publicly for the first time, filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Plans are in place to trade on the Nasdaq stock exchange using the ticker symbol ANT, though officials have not yet disclosed the expected share price or the total funds they hope to raise.
Revenue Surges, but Losses Remain High
During the first six months of 2026, Anthropic generated $16.3 billion in revenue, showing a massive jump from the $1.2 billion reported during the same timeframe last year. This nearly fourteenfold increase highlights climbing demand for the company artificial intelligence products. Despite the higher revenue, the firm posted an operating loss of $693 million for the first half of 2026. That amount was lower than the $2.1 billion operating loss recorded during the first six months of 2025. Meanwhile, the reported net loss hit $80.7 billion, largely driven by accounting adjustments tied to convertible debt rather than direct business spending. The company cautioned investors that it might not achieve or maintain profitability moving forward.
Thousands of Businesses Are Paying for Claude
The regulatory filing also shed light on the scale of the company corporate customer base. By the end of September 2026, Anthropic served more than 11,900 clients who spent at least $100,000 annually. Within that group, about 1,900 accounts spent $1 million or more each year, and roughly 250 customers paid at least $10 million annually. These numbers demonstrate that the business is drawing clients willing to invest heavily in artificial intelligence tools.
Founders Will Keep Control After IPO
Even though shares will soon be sold to the public, the seven co-founders will maintain authority over major shareholder decisions. Through a special entity named Founder LLC, the founders will control 50.1 percent of the voting power. This group consists of Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Tom Brown, Jack Clark, Jared Kaplan, Sam McCandlish, and Christopher Olah. Management stated this setup protects safety priorities during expansion, though public investors will hold limited influence over company choices. Additionally, the Long-Term Benefit Trust, formed in 2023, retains the power to appoint most board members to ensure the firm pursues its public benefit goals.
Anthropic Warns About AI Risks
The documentation addresses dangers linked to advanced artificial intelligence. Anthropic admitted that stronger systems might generate severe risks, including potential catastrophic outcomes for humanity. Executives explained that the unique voting setup aims to keep safety central after going public, despite worries that everyday investors will have reduced control over corporate direction.
IPO Price and Date Still Unknown
Management has not yet disclosed how many shares will be sold, the anticipated stock price, or the total capital targeted. The paperwork represents a step toward the public market debut, though the offering still requires regulatory clearance. If finalized, the event stands to become one of the most monitored stock listings in the technology sector.
