Peshawar-Lahore Direct Flights to Begin on Iqbal Day

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has announced that direct flights between Peshawar and Lahore will begin on November 9, coinciding with Iqbal Day. This new aviation route aims to bridge a significant gap in regional transit options, providing a fast and efficient corridor between the two major provincial capitals.

Kundi stated that authorities were restoring the air link in collaboration with South Airways. The upcoming service will reduce travel time between the two cities to around 50 minutes to an hour, offering a dramatic improvement over surface transport methods that typically require extensive road journeys through mountainous or heavily trafficked terrain.

Flight Schedule and Frequency for the New Route

Initially, the Peshawar-Lahore route will have four flights a week. The first flight will leave Peshawar for Lahore at approximately 1pm on November 9, marking the formal inauguration of the service.

Aviation planners have structured the weekly frequency to accommodate regular commuters, corporate travelers, and families. Officials will monitor initial passenger demand closely to evaluate the operational viability and passenger volume before implementing any expansion of the timetable.

Who Benefits from the Peshawar-Lahore Air Link

The governor noted that the service would offer a convenient travel option for people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa living in Lahore, including businesspeople and employees. Frequent travel between Peshawar and Lahore is common among traders, academics, government officials, and professionals who maintain commercial and personal ties across both urban centers.

By slashing transit hours, the connection enables same-day return trips for business meetings, conferences, and administrative tasks. This efficiency supports commercial activity and strengthens economic integration between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

Existing Routes and Future Aviation Expansion Plans

Meanwhile, Kundi said the direct Peshawar-Quetta air service was already operating successfully. Authorities also plan to increase the number of flights on the Peshawar-Lahore route in the future based on passenger demand and fleet availability.

Expanding regional aviation infrastructure remains a priority for provincial authorities seeking to improve connectivity across Pakistan. Regional routes help decentralize air traffic from primary hubs and offer alternative transit pathways for citizens residing in distant regions.

Connecting Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral and Parachinar

Kundi added that work was underway to explore air connections to Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral, and Parachinar. He said further measures would connect different parts of the province through air services.

Many remote districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa face geographic challenges that complicate road travel, particularly during adverse weather conditions. Establishing functional airfields and regular commercial flights to these areas can transform emergency medical evacuations, tourism, and local commerce.

Restoring the Heritage of Peshawar

Beyond aviation developments, the governor also pledged to continue efforts to make Peshawar the City of Flowers once again. This cultural and environmental initiative focuses on urban beautification, tree planting campaigns, and the restoration of historical public spaces within the historic city.

Integrating infrastructure modernization with environmental renewal forms a central part of the regional administration policy agenda. Public works and transit improvements run parallel to cultural preservation efforts as authorities seek to elevate the living standards and civic pride of local residents.
