The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) destroyed 900 kilograms of meat from animals infected with lumpy skin disease during a raid in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat area.
Food-safety teams retrieved the meat from a beef shop and confiscated the vehicle that had been used to move the supply. PFA Director General Mansoor Ahmed said the meat emitted a strong foul smell and had changed colour.
A veterinary specialist inspected the stock and declared it unsuitable for human consumption, noting that the supplier had illegally slaughtered lumpy skin disease-infected animals and prepared their meat for market sale.
The authority eliminated the whole 900 kg consignment on site to stop any possibility of sale or consumption.
The operation was carried out under the director general's orders as the PFA worked to halt the distribution of unsafe meat.
