Social media platform Reddit introduced a For You feed on Wednesday, following a trend started by TikTok. When opening the application, visitors now encounter two distinct choices named For You and Following.

Personalized recommendations blend with content from joined groups inside the For You section. Reddit stated that this addition assists members in finding relevant discussions and boards they might miss otherwise. Meanwhile, the Following section strictly shows updates from subscribed spaces.

According to the business, this update aims to build connection, participation, and belonging.

By updating the layout, Reddit likely expects members to interact with material outside their usual subscriptions. This update also aligns the platform with standard recommendation driven experiences on social media, where algorithms shape timelines.

Through this release, Reddit joins other major networks using For You style feeds, such as Instagram, X, Threads, and Facebook.

Not all members appreciate the modification. Certain individuals prefer a focused view containing only subscribed boards without algorithmic suggestions mixed in. Participants who tested the feature early voiced their annoyance regarding the update.

Reddit noted that individuals can toggle between the feeds and return to their last viewed option upon reopening the application.

Although Reddit previously suggested posts from unsubscribed boards, the updated design provides those suggestions with a dedicated homepage feed.

In an online post, the organization stated, "This new feed experience is a first step in helping drive discovery that leads to something novel and relevant - an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or even a new interest." The post added, "A more human internet is not just something you sit back and watch, it is something you find value in and want to participate in."

The updated feed system is releasing worldwide across the coming weeks, according to the firm.
