British healthcare providers and pharmacists received orders to immediately halt distribution of a specific heart medication across the UK. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency issued the recall for an oral solution containing clopidogrel.

Patients currently using the prescription were warned to never stop taking medicines such as clopidogrel without medical advice. Authorities explained that suddenly stopping clopidogrel may cause serious thrombotic events.

An update from Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency stated that Xeal Pharma informed them how all strengths of their Clopidogrel Oral Suspension and Clopidogrel Oral Solution products contain less than the labelled amount of clopidogrel. A formulation error caused the impacted batches to contain 76% of the required amount of clopidogrel. All batches produced prior to this notification are affected, and officials noted this is a Class 2 Patient, Pharmacy and Wholesaler level recall.
