Certain app interface updates are merely bothersome, but fresh aggressive prompts from X trying to make users pay for post promotion have left people frustrated. Multiple accounts reported over the past twenty-four hours that an unexplained hand appeared to direct attention toward the promote button during post creation, annoying individuals across the platform.
While the timing near Halloween suggests a possible seasonal joke, X has not confirmed any such intent, and the graphic might deter even paying customers.
I just went to write a tweet and a massive hand popped up pointing to the promote button 😵💫 pic.twitter.com/cLPP5pNaNP

WTF @elonmusk, if I wanted jump scares I would've watched a horror movie instead.

P.S. this hand popped out of nowhere and conveniently when the words "engagement farming" are in the tweet. pic.twitter.com/NWxt81AYie
Dylan Abruscato, who serves as president of the TBPN podcast, described the tactic as the most Nikita-coded thing I have ever seen, referencing growth strategies linked to former X product head Nikita Bier.
I was just about to post when this huge, in-your-face arm popped up pointing at the promote button (yes, this is a real screenshot)

The most Nikita coded thing I’ve ever seen. So obstructive, yet so effective pic.twitter.com/TOI2puhliO
Bier departed the company in August following a tenure lasting nearly a year. Peter Sellis, who previously led product at Snap and Discord and worked as Bier's boss, announced on Monday that he assumed the role of product chief at X.
I’m joining the team at @X to lead Product.

I am a huge believer in @SpaceX's mission to extend human consciousness to the stars, so it’s time to make shitposting multiplanetary.
X is the best way to find out what’s happening in the world right now and talk about it. The team…
It remains unconfirmed whether Sellis introduced the pointing hand feature. An inquiry was sent to X for comment, with updates promised upon receipt of a response.
