Canadian border officials confiscated over 16 kilograms of undeclared food and animal products, such as goat trotters, known as siri paye, along with ghee and chicken, from Pakistani travelers landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
According to the Canada Border Services Agency, the passengers neglected to declare these goods during their arrival. Officials issued a fine amounting to CAD 1,350 for the infraction. The confiscated goods contained siri paye, chicken meat, ghee, and milk powder.
The agency monitors rules controlling the import of food, plants, animals, and related goods into the country, working alongside other government departments.
The official website outlines various food and agricultural goods that visitors cannot bring into the country from other nations.
Prohibited goods feature raw or cooked meat, fruits, vegetables, and milk. The bans also apply to specific homemade goods, items made from plants or wood, indoor plants, live animals including pets, and fishing bait.
Additional banned goods consist of firewood, plant cuttings, seeds, and soiled hiking boots.
Still, certain goods can enter the country when visitors supply proper paperwork or finish necessary registration steps.
The agency suggests that visitors transporting food, plant, or animal goods check the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's Automated Import Reference System prior to entering the country.
