easypaisa Digital Bank Financial Results for the First Nine Months of 2026

The Board of Directors of easypaisa Digital Bank met yesterday to review and approve the financial statements covering the first nine months of 2026. Following this meeting, the institution announced a massive Profit Before Tax of PKR 13.30 billion. This financial outcome marks a staggering 2.35 times increase compared to the exact same period last year. Alongside this strong pre-tax figure, the Profit After Tax reached an impressive PKR 7.41 billion. Meanwhile, Earnings per Share settled at a solid PKR 12.31, reflecting strong profitability metrics for shareholders.

These figures arrive as the digital banking sector in Pakistan undergoes rapid transformation. Regulatory changes by the central bank have encouraged financial technology firms to transition into full digital banks. This shift allows entities to offer a wider array of financial products directly to consumers and small businesses. The strong performance of easypaisa highlights the growing acceptance of digital-first financial services across urban and rural communities.

Strong Revenue Growth Across Core Streams

The remarkable growth reported by the institution reflects a broad-based expansion across all core business streams. Total revenue jumped by 38.53% year-on-year to hit PKR 46.67 billion. Specifically, net markup income grew by 37.0%. A growing lending portfolio and strategic treasury investments primarily drove this markup growth. Additionally, fee-based income experienced a 40.63% surge. Higher revenues from payment services, online transactions, disbursements, collections, and insurance products heavily supported this fee-based increase.

However, non-markup expenses also rose to PKR 32.80 billion. This increase directly reflects heavy ongoing investments in customer acquisition, merchant penetration, and risk-sharing costs associated with digital lending. Ultimately, the cost-to-income ratio stood at 70.27%. Managing these operational expenses remains a key priority as the bank scales its technological infrastructure and expands its merchant network.

Massive Customer Deposit Expansion and Asset Quality

Simultaneously, customer deposits skyrocketed by 59.06% year-on-year to reach PKR 174.39 billion. The bank maintained an exceptionally strong deposit mix along the way. Notably, the CASA ratio reached 96.99%, while the current account ratio held steady at 79%. Net advances also climbed to PKR 31.65 billion. Consequently, the advances-to-deposit ratio settled at 18.15%.

Moreover, asset quality remained extremely healthy. Non-performing loans accounted for just 2.91% of gross advances. Furthermore, the bank maintained a robust coverage ratio of 165.07%. The digital bank also remained adequately capitalized throughout the year. The capital adequacy ratio stood at 27.54% as of September 30, which sits well above the regulatory requirement. Earlier in July, the Pakistan Credit Rating Agency upgraded the long-term entity rating of the bank to AA- and maintained its short-term rating at A1.

Understanding Digital Banking Expansion in Pakistan

The evolution of digital banking in the country stems from deliberate policy frameworks established to bring millions of unbanked citizens into the formal financial system. Traditional banking models often struggle to reach remote populations due to high physical infrastructure costs. Digital platforms overcome this barrier by using mobile phones and internet connectivity. Users can open accounts, transfer funds, and secure loans without visiting a physical branch.

Customer deposits have surged across the sector as trust in mobile financial platforms increases. The high CASA ratio achieved by easypaisa indicates that a large portion of funds sits in low-cost current and savings accounts. This deposit structure provides a stable and inexpensive funding base for issuing loans and undertaking treasury investments. Risk management practices, such as maintaining a coverage ratio of 165.07% against non-performing loans, protect the institution against potential credit defaults.

Future Outlook and Strategic Priorities for easypaisa

Moving forward, the digital bank plans to build a broader ecosystem that goes far beyond basic payments. President and CEO Jahanzeb Khan stated that these results demonstrate sustainable financial performance. He emphasized that the bank will now focus on deepening customer relationships through lending, savings, remittances, and Islamic banking. Additionally, the company will continue expanding its footprint in foreign exchange and credit cards.

Currently, easypaisa operates as the first digital bank in Pakistan to begin commercial operations. The platform now boasts over 60 million registered users. Backed by telecom giant Telenor Group and open internet platform Ant Group, the bank continues to advance the digital and cashless economy agenda of Pakistan. Ultimately, the company remains completely aligned with the State Bank of Pakistan's vision of driving inclusive economic growth for millions of unbanked citizens.
