Welsh darts professional Gerwyn Price has announced that he intends to step back from the sport, despite recently climbing back to fourth in the PDC rankings following a strong run of form. The 41-year-old former world champion will still compete in major PDC competitions, but he will skip appearances for MODUS Sports Management and MDA Events. Earlier this year, Price purchased a farm, and he is expecting to become a grandfather in the New Year. Explaining his shift in perspective on social media, Price stated that his attitude toward his schedule has evolved.

He wrote: "Thanks everyone for your concerns I'm absolutely fine just need time at home and not constantly on the road."

He added: "I'm absolutely loving darts atm and I hope this continues."

"In previous years, I've always made the sacrifices and never missed events, whether it's exhibitions or PDC tournaments and invitational events."

"After experiencing this year, my mindset has definitely changed towards this."

"I have a very busy life inside and outside of darts and need to prioritise what's best for me and my family."

"You can never buy time and time is what's most important."

This announcement follows his exit from the European Darts Championship on Monday, where world number fourteen Ross Smith defeated him in the semi-finals even though Price recorded a 93.69 average. Shortly after the loss, Price shared online that he would return to farm work within hours. He wrote: "(I would) have lost in the final anyway. Onto the next, great weekend for me again."
