Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station reports that Apple is preparing major upgrades for the iPhone Air 2, including a larger battery and a second rear camera, ahead of a potential spring 2027 launch.

Design and Display

Rumors indicate the upcoming smartphone will feature a 6.55-inch flat OLED display with a 1.5K+ resolution. The screen should use LTPO technology and a 120Hz refresh rate to provide smoother scrolling and animations. These screen specifications match the original iPhone Air, which points to Apple keeping much of the current design. Face ID support for facial recognition and unlocking is also anticipated.

Internals and Software

An A20-series chipset built on a 2nm process could power the new phone. This advanced manufacturing method aims to boost processing performance and energy efficiency over older generations. Enhanced power efficiency may extend battery life without altering the slim build of the device. Apple has not specified which version of the A20 processor will be included.

Cameras

Adding a second rear camera stands out as a primary expected improvement. While the first iPhone Air relies on a single 48MP main camera, recent leaks point to a dual-camera layout with a 48MP main sensor and an ultrawide lens. Past reports indicated Apple tested a second 48MP ultrawide camera for this model. This change would align the camera versatility of the iPhone Air more closely with standard iPhone models.

Battery and Pricing

Rumors point to a 3,500mAh battery inside the iPhone Air 2, which is larger than the 3,149mAh capacity found in the first model. This marks an increase of roughly 11 percent. Paired with the efficient A20 processor, the bigger battery should improve longevity, though real-world performance depends on hardware and software tuning. Apple has not revealed pricing details, and the new hardware additions might impact cost.

Expected Launch Date

An arrival in spring 2027 is projected for the iPhone Air 2, possibly alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. Past information hints that Apple might alter its release timeline by rolling out certain devices earlier in the year. The phone may also stand out as one of few ultra-thin flagship handsets debuting in 2027. Apple has not officially announced the product or verified these specifications.
