Safety standards and market oversight for beauty products in Pakistan will see tighter control after the Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology passed the Pakistan General Cosmetics Bill, 2026, on Monday at Parliament House.

Senator Kamil Ali Agha led the session, directing a detailed, section-by-section examination of the draft law prior to its approval.

Under the new legislation, personal care items must undergo scientific safety reviews, feature clear ingredient labels, and avoid deceptive advertising claims.

During the proceedings, the chairman asked government representatives about the total count of beauty product businesses functioning nationwide, checking their official registration status with sales tax departments, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the Federal Board of Revenue, and the Directorate General of Trade Organizations.

Committee members stressed that starting industry groups ought to remain straightforward across all areas so rules do not place heavy obstacles in front of new enterprises. They also looked closely at the ratio between finished beauty goods brought from abroad and raw materials imported for domestic production.

Participants at the gathering included the federal minister for science and technology, the federal minister for defense production attending as a special guest, legal experts from the Law Division, high-ranking officials, and Senators Dr. Afnan Ullah Khan and Husna Bano.
