More than 450 markets, shops, and various structures erected on state property have been torn down by officials in Peshawar as part of a continuing anti-encroachment operation along Ring Road.
The district administration stated that the operation launched last week spans the roadway and adjacent zones, with officials seeking to recover public property, broaden streets and walkways, and clear barriers causing traffic flow problems.
Operations began in Garhi Qamardin and later spread to Jamil Chowk, Pir Zakori Flyover, Pushtakhara Chowk, and additional parts of Ring Road.
Heavy equipment is being deployed by personnel from the Peshawar Development Authority alongside other agencies to clear the illegal constructions.
Enhancing travel conditions stays a primary goal, according to the administration, which previously cleared obstructions near Kabutar Chowk for the Ring Road underpass initiative.
Deputy Commissioner Afaq Wazir instructed staff to prevent violators from coming back to sites that have already been cleared.
Parallel sweeps are underway in other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where shopkeepers in Charsadda voiced worries over potential income loss, while certain individuals claimed buildings were brought down without proper warning.
The administration insists it will press forward with clearing unauthorized occupations from government property.
