To stop potential misuse, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has initiated the blocking of WhatsApp accounts connected to inactive SIM cards, according to officials.

This action comes after an awareness drive that told users to verify their WhatsApp profiles are tied to active mobile numbers currently under their ownership and control.

Users have been instructed by the PTA to update their WhatsApp registration if their old SIM cards are cancelled, deactivated, or no longer active.

Security vulnerabilities arise from inactive SIM cards because mobile operators might give those numbers to new subscribers. When a WhatsApp profile stays linked to a reassigned number, the past owner risks losing account access or experiencing unauthorized entry.

Mobile subscribers have received a call from the authority to verify their SIM status and confirm their WhatsApp profiles connect to numbers they actively use.

Individuals who switched mobile numbers should use the Change Number feature on WhatsApp to move their profile to their active number, lowering the danger of misuse.

This recent step follows earlier warnings issued by the PTA regarding the security dangers tied to WhatsApp accounts set up on cancelled or dormant SIM cards.
