The Safe Cities Authority has begun fitting emergency QR panic buttons in hospitals throughout Punjab, allowing residents to ask for urgent assistance, including blood, by scanning a code on their phones.

The rollout follows directives from the Punjab chief minister and is being executed in phases, starting in Lahore and extending to other provincial cities.

When a QR code is scanned, the hospital's details appear on the user's device. After the user enters a mobile number, they can contact the hospital's blood bank via Helpline 15, a live chat, or a video call.

Upon receiving a request, the Safe City team links the patient with donors of the needed blood type, accelerating blood supply in critical situations.

The panic buttons are not limited to blood needs; citizens may also scan the QR code to obtain immediate help from the Safe Cities Authority for other emergencies.
