The Punjab government intends to revamp the province's electrical safety framework by mandating yearly inspections for more than 73,000 industrial, commercial and public-building electricity connections. The plan also includes tighter licensing rules for electrical contractors and a digital verification system to stop safety certificates from being issued without proper testing.
The draft Punjab Electrical Safety (Periodic Inspection and Licensing) Order, 2026 aims to move the current largely reactive system toward preventive regulation. It expands the inspection net, raises technical standards and increases accountability for spotting and fixing electrical hazards before they lead to fires, injuries or deaths.
