Microsoft rolled out a fresh Windows 11 capability that speeds up the Microsoft Edge browser startup by up to 33 percent, specifically when people run multiple programs at once. Entitled Accelerated App Launch, the function refines how the operating system opens software currently running in the background.

Microsoft states that Edge boots about 15 percent quicker under normal circumstances, with gains hitting 33 percent during heavy multitasking workloads. The tool is accessible beginning with Microsoft Edge version 150 and the October 2026 Windows 11 non-security update, designated as KB5127936.

How Accelerated App Launch Works

Typically, when individuals click a link or start Microsoft Edge from the taskbar, Windows verifies if the browser already operates. This action triggers an extra process that hunts for an active Edge instance prior to opening the requested window. Even though this routine is normally fast, it creates visible slowdowns when a machine handles several programs concurrently.

Accelerated App Launch eliminates this extra step entirely. Once Edge starts, it registers with Windows, allowing the operating system to talk directly to the existing browser process the next time someone opens Edge. This cuts down the duration needed to show the browser window.

Yet, the speed boost only functions when Edge already runs, through an open window or background tools like Startup Boost. It fails to offer identical performance gains when starting Edge fresh following a full shutdown. The capability works when opening Edge via the Start menu, taskbar, and supported links.

Available With the Latest Windows 11 Update

Accelerated App Launch demands Microsoft Edge version 150 or newer alongside a compatible Windows 11 setup. Microsoft explains that the tool supports Windows 11 versions 25H2, 26H1, and 26H2 paired with the October 2026 update or later. The KB5127936 patch currently exists as an optional non-security preview for supported Windows 11 editions.

Apart from the browser enhancement, the patch brings a redesigned File Explorer context menu and a Cloud Rebuild recovery tool. Cloud Rebuild permits people to reinstall Windows using files fetched from Windows Update, even when the operating system fails to boot normally.

Google Chrome and Other Browsers Could Get It Too

Microsoft Edge stands as the initial browser supporting Accelerated App Launch, though the corporation plans to share the technology. Microsoft contributes the necessary modifications to Chromium, the open-source browser foundation used by Edge, Google Chrome, Brave, and Vivaldi. Consequently, other Chromium-based browsers might eventually adopt comparable enhancements on Windows 11.

Still, Microsoft has not verified when rival browsers will implement the capability. The business also investigates methods to apply Accelerated App Launch toward opening PDF files. Presently, Windows 11 users possessing the necessary updates enjoy swifter Edge startups, especially when juggling programs or opening browser links during heavy multitasking.
