A recent report indicates that Microsoft may price its upcoming home console as high as $1,800 upon release, with a target launch window set for 2028. Internal projections place the device, known by the codename Project Helix, between $1,200 and $1,800, though this is not a finalized retail price and hardware subsidies could lower the final amount for buyers.
Asha Sharma, the Xbox CEO, intends to roll out Project Helix in the holiday season of 2028, based on the report. Microsoft has not yet provided an official retail price or launch date for the system. Nevertheless, the company acknowledges that Project Helix is currently in development. Back in March, Microsoft announced a partnership with AMD for this next-generation Xbox hardware, stating that developer alpha versions would start shipping in 2027.
The upcoming hardware generation is described by Microsoft as a broader family of devices, where Project Helix will run both PC and Xbox titles.
New Xbox Handheld Could Arrive First
Prior to the release of the home console, Microsoft allegedly intends to introduce a new Xbox handheld device during the 2027 holiday season. This handheld falls under the broader Project Helix hardware strategy, though the report omits any pricing details for it. Uncertainty also surrounds whether Microsoft will build the handheld independently or partner with another hardware manufacturer.
The $1,200 to $1,800 figure serves as an internal estimate rather than a set consumer price. Microsoft might decide to subsidize the console to reduce the cost for buyers at release. At this stage, Microsoft has only verified the development of Project Helix, leaving the rumored 2027 handheld debut, 2028 console arrival, and $1,800 price unconfirmed.
