Vincent Kompany has been released from hospital five days after he collapsed at Bayern Munich's training facility.
Medical personnel worked intensively to pinpoint the reason for the Bayern manager's health emergency, which led to his airlift to a hospital last Friday.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said a breakthrough was achieved and Kompany should return to the touchline shortly.
The 40-year-old Manchester City legend received a diagnosis of meningeal irritation.
Meningeal irritation involves inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, which can cause painful muscle spasms.
Eberl stated: "They have found what it is. It's meningeal irritation that caused this incident last Friday.
"I'm very, very sure that he will soon be back on the sideline at 100 per cent."
When he collapsed, Kompany was reported to have lost consciousness, suffered convulsions and dislocated his shoulder.
During his hospital stay, various Bayern officials visited him, while assistant Aaron Danks led the team to a Sunday win over Freiburg and a cup match against Magdeburg on Wednesday.
Initially, the club expected him to be absent from the touchline for weeks.
The exact impact of the diagnosis on that timeline remains unclear.
