Wrexham have been penalised by the EFL for deploying two ineligible players during the campaign. The Championship club failed to submit the correct paperwork for either Issa Kabore or Callum O'Hare before matches.

Kabore featured against Birmingham City on August 28, while Callum O'Hare sat on the bench at Millwall five days later. However, the paperwork failure meant both individuals should not have been named in the matchday squads.

The EFL imposed a £75,000 fine on Wrexham for the violation, though the team escaped a points deduction. This happened because Wrexham lost the game where Kabore played, and O'Hare did not leave the bench during the victory against Millwall.

Manager Phil Parkinson could have faced a three-point penalty if he had sent O'Hare onto the pitch. This aligns with EFL precedent, as demonstrated by Bury in 2015/16, Rotherham in 2014/15, and AFC Wimbledon in 2013/14.

Those three clubs all used ineligible players in matches they won, resulting in the forfeiture of three points. Following the penalty, Wrexham issued a statement stressing they are implementing measures to prevent similar errors.

The statement read: "The first breach relates to Issa Kabore's inclusion in the matchday squad and appearance as a substitute in the Championship defeat to Birmingham City on Friday 28 August, 2026.

"The club held the correct right-to-work documentation for Kabore but did not properly submit it to the EFL, meaning he was ineligible for the fixture.

"The second breach relates to Callum O'Hare's inclusion in the matchday squad in the Championship victory against Millwall.

"O'Hare had not been registered in time to be eligible for the fixture. He did not feature in the match.

"The club is taking the appropriate steps to prevent such issues occurring in the future."
