Apple released the iOS 27.2 update for iPhones and iPads, introducing expanded language options, better memory capabilities for Siri AI, messaging suggestions, and Apple Pencil compatibility for the foldable iPhone Duo.

The software update introduces beta support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in Siri AI. According to Apple, the assistant can now recall details from previous discussions and respond based on that information. Model creators like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google have also prioritized memory functions for their AI assistants to better recall user preferences.

Siri can pull information from sources such as photos in Messages, calendar event attendees, voicemails, Safari history, and reading lists, alongside its own suggestions. Users can choose specific apps to exclude from Siri AI memories.

Even though early buyers of the iPhone Duo are experiencing display issues, Apple added Apple Pencil support for the foldable device in applications like Notes and Preview. Additionally, users can apply the Edge Light effect to improve face illumination during video calls.

FaceTime receives new tools including Dual Capture, which streams from both the front and rear cameras at the same time during group calls, and the option to include a live captioner or third-party sign language interpreter.

People using iOS 27.2 receive recommendations to turn messages into calendar events or reminder items. Users can also modify captions or leave comments in Shared Albums while tracking folder expiration dates.

The Podcast application updates to display current listening episodes alongside new releases from followed shows.

Apple introduced Multiview for iPhone, enabling viewers to stream up to four live sports events simultaneously on Apple TV, including Major League Soccer, Formula 1 in the U.S., and Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders during the Major League Baseball season. Formula 1 viewers can also watch multiple broadcast feeds.

Release documentation from the company shows that iOS 27.2 includes more than 160 security patches. Several bug fixes were backported so users on the older iOS 26 operating system can also use them.

Apple notes that roughly 80% of iPhone users currently run iOS 26.

Apple also backported a specific security fix to users of iOS 18, which debuted in 2024. The company stated this vulnerability may have been exploited in a highly sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on iOS versions prior to iOS 27. This phrasing is standard for Apple when a device suffers compromise via government spyware or law enforcement forensic tools, though the company did not disclose specifics regarding who carried out the exploit.
