Arsenal youngster Max Dowman will miss three games after football authorities threw out his challenge against a dismissal. The 16-year-old midfielder received a red card in the eighty-fifth minute on Tuesday during his club's Carabao Cup fourth-round defeat against Fleetwood Town.
Referee Michael Salisbury dismissed the England Under-19 international following an incident near the touchline. Dowman reacted angrily to a hard tackle from Harrison Neal by kicking out at the Fleetwood player, causing a brief fracas before officials took action.
Club officials quickly challenged the dismissal with the Football Association, hoping to overturn the first professional red card of the teenager's career. However, the governing body upheld the punishment, confirming the suspension.
An official statement said, An independent Regulatory Commission has dismissed claims of both wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment for Max Dowman. The Arsenal player was sent off during their EFL Cup game against Fleetwood Town on Tuesday 27 October and will be suspended for three matches. The Regulatory Commission's written reasons for its decisions will be published in due course.
