The partner of former Chelsea player Marc Cucurella disclosed that she almost became a victim of the Toledo train crash in Spain.

The high-speed accident killed at least 68 people and injured at least 100 more after a communication failure about an obstruction from central command.

The incident sparked widespread mourning across Spain and Europe, with several prominent Spanish footballers sending condolences.

Claudia Rodriguez, the long-term girlfriend of Real Madrid defender Cucurella, posted an Instagram story saying she was travelling to Malaga on the train behind the one involved.

She wrote that she was "on the way to Malaga on the train behind" and offered "support to the victims' families and friends".

In a later story she added, "Guys, I'm fine. My train wasn't affected at all since there was plenty of distance between us and the train that had the accident. We simply had to turn around and head back to Madrid since it was on the same route. It made my stomach turn thinking that if it had happened later, it would have happened to my train, but honestly, that's nothing compared to what the people who actually were on that train must have gone through. All my strength once again to those families."

Rodriguez also shared a request for blood donations in Madrid, where her family now lives after her boyfriend's £52 million transfer from Chelsea.

The Spanish Football Federation postponed 24 Copa del Rey matches, and several La Liga games were also delayed.

The government declared three days of national mourning.

The crash follows the country's first fatal train accident this year, when a high-speed Renfe train struck a stationary Iryo train.

Claudia and Cucurella have been together since 2018 and have three children: Mateo, Rio and Bella.

The couple attended the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, where Harry Kane won, before the Wednesday crash.
