Bitcoin stayed under pressure near $77,000 on Friday as a sell-off in technology stocks spread to global risk assets. The digital currency slipped 1.1% during the session, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.5% to about 25,500, its lowest since early August. Gold also weakened, dropping to $3,891 per ounce, the lowest level in a year.
The wider market decline came after renewed worries about AI-sector profitability and weaker-than-expected sales guidance from major tech firms. Intel shares tumbled nearly 30% after the company warned of softer fourth-quarter sales, adding strain to technology stocks and chipmakers.
Bitcoin also dealt with uncertainty after reports of a $6.3 billion Binance hack, heightening concerns across the crypto market. Binance said it would cover the losses with its own funds, and QCP Capital warned that macro pressures, tech-sector worries and the exchange incident had sparked a period of heightened market repricing.
At roughly $77,000, Bitcoin was on pace to close October down 7.7%, marking its weakest October performance since 2014, according to CoinGlass data. Gold's slide and tech-stock weakness further underscored the broader pressure on risk-sensitive assets.
