Bradford announced that former chairman Geoffrey Richmond has died at the age of 85 on Friday.

Born in Leeds, Richmond took over as Bradford chairman in 1994 and immediately loaned the club £2.3million to settle its debts.

His tenure marked the most successful era at Valley Parade, including the club's inaugural Wembley appearance in the 1996 Second Division play-off final.

Bradford also achieved promotion to the Premier League in the 1998/99 season under his leadership.

The team's top-flight spell ended with relegation in 2001, and Richmond stepped down before the club entered administration in 2002 after losing fan confidence.
