Citizens have received a warning from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency stating that online investment schemes offering unusually high or quick returns could be scams aimed at taking their savings.

Through an advisory posted on X, the agency told people to avoid risking their savings for the promise of daily profits or quick wealth. The agency noted that these schemes may be fraudulent and could result in financial loss.

NCCIA's Advice Before Investing

The agency instructed the public to thoroughly research and verify any platform prior to investing, providing a five-step advisory:

  • Research the platform thoroughly before putting in any money.
  • Be wary of promises of high or guaranteed returns.
  • Avoid investment offers from unknown sources or on social media.
  • Use only licensed and reputable investment platforms.
  • Report suspicious investment schemes to the NCCIA.

A Recurring Fraud

Cybercriminals in Pakistan frequently use fake investment offers as a tactic. Earlier this year, the agency shut down a call center used for e-commerce and investment scams.

As part of a broader campaign encouraging safe digital habits, the NCCIA also conducts awareness sessions about online fraud and OTP scams in colleges and schools.
