Former national hockey team captain and legendary player Shahbaz Ahmed Senior has chosen to launch a political career, intending to run in the upcoming general elections representing his native Faisalabad.
Sources indicate that the former athlete will officially make his political intentions public in the near future.
Recognized globally as a premier forward in the sport, Shahbaz gained fame for his remarkable quickness, evasive body dodges, stick handling, and overall agility, which earned him the monikers "Maradona of Hockey" and "Man with the Electric Heel."
Throughout his time representing his country internationally, the iconic forward netted 92 goals and led Pakistan as captain to their most recent Hockey World Cup championship victory back in 1994.
In addition, he achieved the distinction of becoming the initial athlete chosen as Player of the Tournament across back-to-back Hockey World Cups, claiming the title in both 1990 and 1994.
Shahbaz holds the exclusive status of being the sole field hockey competitor awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the Pakistani government.
