Rockstar Games has officially revealed details about the non-player characters in Grand Theft Auto 6. The game will feature more than 600,000 unique NPC animations and behaviors at launch. Pedestrians will react to various situations in numerous detailed ways.

The upcoming entry expands the map beyond Vice City. Players will explore the state of Leonida, including Rockstar's interpretations of the Florida Keys and the Everglades. The game will feature numerous interior environments, allowing players to enter clubs, local businesses, and Jason and Lucia's personal apartments.

A Dedicated Team for GTA 6 NPC Animations & Behaviors

In an interview with Edge Magazine, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson discussed the scale of the pedestrian mechanics. To achieve this milestone, Rockstar created a dedicated internal team to exclusively handle the NPC residents of Leonida, resulting in over 600,000 unique animations.

Each pedestrian possesses distinct personality traits. NPCs will react differently based on their individual demeanor and aggression levels. These hidden traits determine how aggressive an NPC will act or whether they will grab a weapon during a confrontation.

Rockstar has developed a massive library of NPC dialogue. An NPC's vocal tone will change depending on outside factors, including the time of day, the current weather, or the player committing a nearby crime, mirroring the dialogue system from Red Dead Redemption 2.

Gameplay Choices & Massive Pre-Order Sales

Grand Theft Auto 6 will introduce gameplay options, with players having multiple ways to complete story missions, as shown in the Extended Look trailer. The developers considered removing the classic weapon wheel to increase immersion before deciding to retain the mechanic.

With the release date set for November 19, the game arrives in a few weeks. Rockstar has sold 6 million copies through pre-orders. The PlayStation 5 version is outselling the Xbox Series X/S version, with 4.8 million pre-orders on PS5 compared to 1.66 million on Xbox.
