Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Sunday, October 25, 2026, that Islamabad's F-9 Park will receive coffee shops, a lake, upgraded lighting and walking routes, along with thousands of new trees, while existing greenery will stay untouched.
In a social-media statement, Naqvi emphasized that no trees will be felled and no new concrete structures will be erected as part of the upgrades. He said the goal is to make the park greener, safer and more enjoyable for families and other visitors.
The park, officially called Fatima Jinnah Park, is a major public green space in the capital. Residents and environmental activists have voiced concerns about safeguarding its natural environment during any development.
Naqvi previously spoke of upgrading the park in a manner similar to London's Hyde Park, though the government has not released a budget or a timeline for the work.
The proposal seeks to enhance recreational facilities while retaining the park's green character.
