On October 29, 2026, OpenAI rolled out major updates to its ChatGPT Pro subscriptions by doubling Work and Codex usage allowances for multiple plans while reversing a previously planned reduction. These updates apply immediately to new customers and automatically for current subscribers paying $100, $200, or $500 per month, with no price hikes attached to the service.

ChatGPT Pro Users Get More Usage

OpenAI doubled the Work and Codex usage allowances for subscribers on its Pro 100 and Pro 500 tiers. Customers on the Pro 200 plan who previously had lower allowances also received twice their previous usage to match other subscribers paying the same price. Meanwhile, Pro 200 customers who already had the higher allowance kept their existing limits instead of receiving another doubling. The increased allowances became available without requiring any subscription cancellations or renewals. OpenAI also confirmed that ChatGPT Plus usage limits stay unchanged.

OpenAI Cancels Planned Pro 200 Usage Cut

This announcement reverses a controversial change previously scheduled for ChatGPT Pro 200. In September, OpenAI told some subscribers that their Work and Codex allowances would shrink. That planned adjustment would have dropped the allowance from roughly 20 times the Plus level down to 10 times. Existing customers with higher limits had temporary protection, but the reduction was supposed to happen after October 29. OpenAI has now canceled that reduction entirely. As a result, current subscribers keep their higher usage limits, and customers who had less capacity are upgraded. The company also reopened the Pro 200 subscription to new buyers at $200 per month.

What Are Work and Codex?

ChatGPT Work lets users assign complex tasks to AI, including researching information, analyzing files, creating documents, and completing multi-step projects. Codex is OpenAI's AI coding assistant built to help developers write, review, debug, and modify software. Both services share a usage allowance under eligible subscriptions. The extra capacity means subscribers can finish more AI-assisted work before hitting their included limits. OpenAI noted that doubling an allowance does not necessarily mean users can finish twice as many tasks, since usage depends on the AI model, task complexity, reasoning settings, and the volume of processed information.

Pro 500 Offers Faster AI Processing

OpenAI's highest-priced personal subscription, Pro 500, costs $500 per month. It includes access to Ultrafast processing for supported models like GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. However, Ultrafast consumes included usage at eight times the standard rate. This faster processing option is not included with Pro 100 or Pro 200. OpenAI also keeps separate weekly limits for its GPT-6 Pro model during regular ChatGPT conversations. Those limits remain the same for Pro 100 and Pro 500 subscribers, while Pro 200 users who had lower weekly limits are being upgraded to match the higher allowance.

Business Premium Users Also Receive More Usage

OpenAI confirmed that these updates also bring increased Work and Codex usage to ChatGPT Business Premium subscribers. The company did not state the exact increase for Business Premium accounts. ChatGPT Business offers two options: Standard and Premium. Business Standard costs $25 per user monthly, or $20 per user monthly with annual billing. Business Premium costs $125 per user monthly, or $100 per user monthly with annual billing. These business subscriptions are separate from personal ChatGPT Pro plans.

How to Check Your New Usage Limits

OpenAI stated that eligible subscribers can check their updated allowances through the Usage section inside ChatGPT settings. Users can view their remaining capacity and the time when their allowance resets. Because the changes apply automatically, subscribers do not need to contact support or purchase another subscription. OpenAI also lets eligible customers buy extra credits for supported Work and Codex activities after using up their included allowance. These updates provide extra capacity for users relying on AI for coding, research, and demanding tasks without raising monthly costs.
